BALANCING YOUR BODY’S PH
Understanding pH can help you keep your body healthy. Our bodies function in a very narrow range of acid/alkaline balance (pH). Our blood, in particular, is very sensitive to any change in pH. Ideally, blood pH should be slightly alkaline at about 7.45.
Our body works very hard to stabilize our pH because a variance of even as little as a few tenths of a point, severe illness and death may occur. Since most of the foods we eat and drink are highly acidic (meat, dairy, soda, alcohol, coffee, carbohydrates, sugars) our body has to work doubly hard. Sometimes, this becomes too much for your body to handle.
HOW YOUR BODY NEUTRALIZES ACIDSince the body cannot eliminate acids through the kidneys, it handles acids by neutralizing them with the minerals in your body; sodium, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Calcium is the most important. Your blood is at the top of a priority list to maintain the pH. Your body will steal minerals from anywhere and everywhere before it will let your blood become too acidic. If you body can’t access enough minerals to deal with the acid, it will turn to your body’s prime mineral reserve, your bones. In order to avoid death, your body has no choice but to begin leaching calcium from your bones to balance the pH. This is a cause of osteoporosis which your body decides is preferable to death.
As you can see, an extended pH imbalance of any kind threatens our well-being. Managing the pH balance of all of your bodily fluids is critical to your health.
HOW TO HELP YOUR BODY BALANCE PHEat Fresh fruits and vegetables. Ironically, although citrus fruits are highly acidic, your body treats them as alkaline so that they are highly effective alkalinizers. This is another reason why eating your fruits and vegetables daily are so important to your health.
